World Mental Health Day 2024: Prioritizing Workplace Mental Health

To mark today’s World Mental Health Day, I’m so happy to share with you an excerpt from a chapter in my Leading with Joy Masterclass (stay tuned for premiere links next week!) that couldn’t be more timely for this year’s theme ‘workplace mental health’—the importance of embedding Mindfulness in business and a brief yet effective breathwork meditation for you can practice at work to help you achieve a sense of calm and connection with the heart.

We are all intimately aware of the cost of the mental health pandemic, not just in our everyday lives but also in business. It manifests as a low sense of belonging, loss of talented colleagues, and the knock-on effects on customer loyalty, productivity, and profitability.

It was an honor to follow in the footsteps of Arianna Huffington, who elevated the importance of Mental Health in Business in 2016, by speaking about Leading with Joy at this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos.

The facts are clear as researched by The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and University of Oxford—by investing in Joy @ Work, you can increase your team’s commitment to productivity by up to 26%, boost customer loyalty by up to 31%, and decrease turnover by up to 25%—and these are facts.

But before we can count the success, we must first create:

  1. Capacity for Change
  2. Enable Eapability for Evolution, and then
  3. Make growth Sustainable.

This can be achieved by fusing mindfulness practices, strategic design tools, and hybrid intelligence—that’s how we can Lead with Joy!
